New-Found Pace for DAM Racing at Silverstone

DAM Racing Porsche at SilverstoneRedditch-based motorsport team, DAM Racing showed new-found pace at Silverstone this weekend (4th September) after completing considerable development work on their Porsche 944 race car. The team is a joint venture between motorsport-specialist graphic design agency DAM Creative, and their long-time client, Pro-9, an independent Porsche Specialist, both companies based on the Weights Lane Business Park in Redditch.

DAM Creative's Studio Manager, David Stokes (Feckenham) is sharing the driving with Pro-9's Brett Evans (Winyates) in the Classic Sports Car Club's Future Classics series. The series features two-driver, 40-minute endurance races for sports cars from the 70s and 80s. The broad mix of cars and budgets meant that the team had struggled for pace earlier in the year, but Pro-9 have answered this with a flurry of development work including a new engine and gearbox combination.

David Stokes Announces 2010 Campaign with DAM Racing

Midlands racing driver, David Stokes, 30, has announced a 2010 motorsport campaign with new Redditch-based team, DAM Racing. The team, has been set up by design agency, DAM Creative, to promote their specialism in design for motorsport and engineering companies. The team will be contesting the Future Classics Championship with a Porsche 944 which will be prepared by DAM's neighbour and long-time client, independent Porsche specialist, Pro-9.

DAM Racing Porsche 944 for 2010 Racing Campaign

The series, run by the Classic and Sports Car Club (CSCC), caters for Sports, Saloon and GT racing cars from the 70s and 80s, divided by engine capacity and the Porsche 944 will run in class C for 2-3 litre cars. The 944 is a perfect fit, both for Pro-9's expertise with the retro models of the performance marque, but also with DAM director Grant Stain, who has been an enthusiast and owner of Porsches for many years.

David obtained his race licence in 2006 and has entered occasional single-seater races as well as having tested an MG saloon.

"It'll be my first proper outing in a closed-wheel series so I imagine it will be quite a change from the slicks-and-wings Formula Jedi series", confirmed David, "but my road car has the same front-engined, rear wheel drive layout as the Porsche, so we can hopefully get to grips with the car early on and be competitive from the first round."

The 40 minute races will be split with a pit-stop and driver change at the half-way point giving David 20 minutes of track time at each of the race events. The second driver will be Brett Evans, son of Pro-9's founder Simon in his first season of motorsport.

As well as working at DAM Creative, David runs the MSportUK.com motorsport news and information site, now in its 10th year online. The site has long provided club racing features and the progress of DAM Racing will be extensively covered on the site, as well as the team and driver sites.
